Falstaff 95 / VINOUS 95 pts

Rich, deep dark ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Opened with pronounced spicy notes of coriander seeds and bay leaf, has a somewhat metallic effect, lots of cassis. Very nicely drawn on the palate, a lot of sweet enamel that wraps around the fine-meshed tannin, grippy and with firm pressure in the final.

The 2019 Poggio dei Colli is incredibly fresh and perfumed, wafting up with dusty violet florals, peppery herbs and wild strawberries. There are depths yet unseen here in its youthful state, dense yet cool-toned, and poised with a mix of red and black fruits laced with saline-minerals and peppery spices. It opens more and more the longer you spend with it. This stains the palate with primary concentration and a fine coating of grippy tannins. Wow, this is sweet yet balanced and so powerful. Give the Poggio dei Colli another two to three years of cellaring.
